About the Real Mopar 426 Hellephant

The Mopar 426 Hellephant is a crate engine that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (the parent company of Dodge) unveiled at the SEMA 2018 show in Las Vegas. It is a 7.0-litre (426 cubic-inch) supercharged HEMI V8 rated at 1000 horsepower and 950 lb-ft of torque, derived from the 6.2-litre Hellcat-Redeye supercharged HEMI but bored out, fitted with a larger 3.0-litre supercharger and tuned for crate-engine use rather than emissions compliance. The name pays tribute to Chrysler's classic 426 HEMI — the 1960s "Elephant" engine that powered the Plymouth Barracuda and Dodge Charger in NASCAR and NHRA competition — with "Hell" added in deference to its modern Hellcat ancestry. While Dodge has never released a factory production vehicle with the Hellephant under the hood, Mopar sells the engine as a crate package to the SEMA / muscle-car community for engine swaps such as this Durango build.
