About the Real Fiat Strada

The Fiat Strada is a compact pickup truck developed by Fiat do Brasil at the Betim plant in Minas Gerais and based on the Fiat Palio hatchback platform (Type 178). The first generation launched in 1998 as Fiat's answer to the Volkswagen Saveiro and the Chevrolet Corsa Pickup, sharing the Palio's dashboard, drivetrain mounts and front suspension while gaining a rear leaf-sprung pickup bed and a reinforced load floor. Power came from Fiat's Brazilian-built four-cylinder Fire engines, most commonly the 1.0 and 1.5-litre flexfuel variants, paired with five-speed manual gearboxes. A facelift in 2003 modernised the headlights, hood and dashboard, with the first-generation Strada ultimately running through 2013 before being replaced by the second-generation Strada (a clean-sheet redesign that took the platform to the Latin American Fiat Argo era). The pre-2003 facelift Strada that this mod recreates is the original first-generation configuration and the version that established the Brazilian compact-pickup category alongside the Saveiro.
